Pick a Way to Play
A friend sent you a trip. Pick a way to play it.
Five desserts. For each one, drop a pin where you think it comes from. The closer you are, the more points you get.
Pass the screen
Look away. The next player is up. No peeking.
The trip is over
Send this trip to a friend. They play the same five desserts.
How to Play
- Pick a way to play. You can play against Smorty, pass one screen between two people, or watch two simulated guessers go head to head.
- Look at the dessert and the ingredients it is made with.
- Click or tap the map to drop a pin where you think it comes from. On a phone, drag the map sideways to see more of it. On a keyboard, use the arrow keys to move the pin and Enter to lock it in. Or pick a place from the list.
- See how far off you were, then open the recipe and the place it comes from.
Every dessert in this game is a recipe on the recipe map, so the map is a good place to practice.
FAQs
How is a guess scored?
A pin within 100 kilometres of the place is a full 1,000 points. A pin 1,000 kilometres off is worth about 550, and a pin on the far side of the world is worth next to nothing. Five desserts make a trip, so 5,000 is the top score.
Who is Smorty?
Smorty is a simulated guesser that runs in your browser. It reads the same dessert and ingredients you do, remembers where some desserts come from and sometimes gets it wrong. It is not a person and it does not call any service.
Can two people play?
Yes. Pick two players on one screen and pass it between you: the first player's pin stays hidden until the second player has guessed. Or send the trip link to a friend and you each play the same five desserts.
Where do the desserts come from?
Every dessert is a recipe on the recipe map, pinned where it comes from. When a new recipe or place page goes live, it joins the game with no other change.
Does the game save anything?
No. Your guesses and scores stay in this page and are gone when you close it. Nothing is sent anywhere.
