Listen to this story
Read aloud by The Spring.
It was a dark and breezy night, and the garage went thump. Then it went thump, thump. Smorty pulled his hinges in tight. The firefly dimmed her lantern to a tiny glow. "What is it?" she whispered.
I bounced up high to look, and there it was, in the corner, shaking: a long, floppy shape! We all held our breath.
It was the extension cord, flapping in the wind, and the garage door was tapping it. Thump. Thump. Smorty laughed so hard his marshmallow wobbled.

The Fix
We coiled the cord and hung it on a hook, and the thump stopped. When a door makes a noise you cannot explain, a grown-up should look at it in daylight. A real tech listens for the sound, then finds where it comes from.
The Moral
Most scary things in a garage are just something loose that nobody has tied down yet.
